Description
A homemade version of the popular Starbucks Cake Pops, featuring moist vanilla cake mixed with frosting, shaped into balls, and dipped in a sweet candy coating.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 box vanilla cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box: typically 3 eggs, 1/2 cup oil, 1 cup water)
- 1/2 cup vanilla frosting
- 12 oz white candy melts
- Sprinkles (optional)
- Cake pop sticks
Instructions
- Prepare the vanilla cake according to the instructions on the box and let it cool completely.
- Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl until fine crumbs form.
- Add the vanilla frosting and mix until fully combined and a dough-like consistency forms.
- Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Chill the balls in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or freeze for 20 minutes.
- Melt the candy melts according to the package directions.
- Dip the tip of a cake pop stick into the melted candy and insert into the center of a cake ball. Repeat for all cake balls.
- Dip each cake pop into the melted candy until fully coated. Gently tap off excess coating.
- Add sprinkles if desired before the coating hardens.
- Stick the cake pops into a foam block or stand to dry completely.
Notes
- Chilling the cake balls helps keep them from falling off the sticks during dipping.
- You can use homemade cake and frosting if preferred.
- Different colored candy melts can be used for variety.
