Description

A homemade version of the popular Starbucks Cake Pops, featuring moist vanilla cake mixed with frosting, shaped into balls, and dipped in a sweet candy coating.


Ingredients

  • 1 box vanilla cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box: typically 3 eggs, 1/2 cup oil, 1 cup water)
  • 1/2 cup vanilla frosting
  • 12 oz white candy melts
  • Sprinkles (optional)
  • Cake pop sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare the vanilla cake according to the instructions on the box and let it cool completely.
  2. Once cooled, crumble the cake into a large bowl until fine crumbs form.
  3. Add the vanilla frosting and mix until fully combined and a dough-like consistency forms.
  4. Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Chill the balls in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or freeze for 20 minutes.
  6. Melt the candy melts according to the package directions.
  7. Dip the tip of a cake pop stick into the melted candy and insert into the center of a cake ball. Repeat for all cake balls.
  8. Dip each cake pop into the melted candy until fully coated. Gently tap off excess coating.
  9. Add sprinkles if desired before the coating hardens.
  10. Stick the cake pops into a foam block or stand to dry completely.

Notes

  • Chilling the cake balls helps keep them from falling off the sticks during dipping.
  • You can use homemade cake and frosting if preferred.
  • Different colored candy melts can be used for variety.
