Description

Delightful sugar cookies perfect for spring tea parties, decorated with pastel icing and floral designs to complement the season.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Food coloring (pastel colors)
  • Royal icing for decorating
  • Sprinkles or edible flowers (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Add egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) and beat until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  6. Divide dough if using multiple colors and mix in food coloring as desired.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut into spring-themed shapes.
  8. Place cookies on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Let cookies cool completely on wire racks before decorating.
  10. Decorate with royal icing, sprinkles, or edible flowers. Let icing set before serving or storing.

Notes

  • Dough can be chilled for 30 minutes for easier handling.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
  • Royal icing can be made ahead and kept in the fridge for several days.
