Description

A healthier twist on the Japanese favorite, this Chicken Katsu is made in the air fryer for a crispy texture without deep frying.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • Cooking spray
  • Tonkatsu sauce, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Dredge each chicken piece in flour, then dip in beaten eggs, and coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Spray both sides of the breaded chicken with cooking spray.
  5. Place the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  6. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  7. Remove and let rest for a couple of minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve with tonkatsu sauce and your choice of sides.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; cook in batches if needed.
  • Panko breadcrumbs give the best crispy texture.
  • Pair with shredded cabbage and rice for a complete meal.
