Tender apple dumplings wrapped in flaky pastry, served with a rich and savory miso caramel sauce.

- 2 large apples, peeled and cored
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp white miso paste
- 1 tbsp butter (for caramel)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut puff pastry into 2 squares. Place one apple in the center of each square.
- Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle the mixture inside each apple and top with a small piece of butter.
- Fold the pastry up around the apple and seal the edges. Brush with egg wash.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Meanwhile, make the miso caramel sauce: In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, heavy cream, butter, and salt. Cook over medium heat until smooth and bubbling.
- Whisk in miso paste and simmer for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Serve dumplings warm with a generous drizzle of miso caramel sauce.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for best flavor contrast.
- Adjust miso amount to taste for a saltier or subtler flavor.
- Dumplings can be made ahead and reheated in the oven.
